About the HEART Coalition
According to the recent statistics, Stanislaus county has high hospitalization rates associated with heart disease and strokes. Risk factors leading to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) include:
- Hypertension
- High blood cholesterol
- Smoking
- Overweight
- Diabetes
- Physical Inactivity
- Stress
It is proven that these health risk factors can be prevented and reduced by behavioral changes in health habits and lifestyles, and early screening and intervention.
There is a clear need for increased awareness of the importance of CVD as a major preventable public health issue for Stanislaus County residents. In January of 1999, the Stanislaus County HEART Coalition was established.
